September 21: Diaper Delivery I

Today we took half of the diapers to Karakastek, along with the other gifts we have brought for them. Vanessa was feeling a lot better this morning, so she and I (Brian) left the kids behind with mom and went down to meet Irina and Genne, and our temporary interpreter, Indera. Ever since the first day, when Mira spent the entire day with us and missed all her classes (she’s a Marketing and Public Relations major at a local university), she doesn’t spend much time with us, if at all, on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

We got to the orphanage and carried in 5 boxes of Seventh Generation diapers of a few sizes, 3 Bundles (our baby carriers), several hats that mom knitted, and some clothes that some family and friends help us buy before we left (thank you)

As you can see in the photos below, we stacked the boxes in a little room and met with the director of the orphanage. She was quite grateful for everything, but didn’t really understand the Bundles. So be it. We left her picture booklets we made that explain how to wear them, so hopefully, they will. We tried to explain that they allow them to hold the children while using both hands to do whatever other tasks they need, but her reaction to the idea doesn’t have us making a dozen more for her. She was very gracious, and sincerely thanks us, so we were glad for the way it went.

We also got some pictures of Josie’s room and her “bunkmates”, and then some more of the orphanage from inside and out.

We got back to the apartment, and Liam was starting to wear down. He’s had the sniffles for the last few days, and it’s turned into a bit more. He’s pretty cranky, and finally, right before bedtime, he threw up. He’s sick. Stress of travel, being in a strange place, a somewhat new diet, and making room in his life for a little sister has finally caught up with him. I suspect (since I'm actaully writing this the next night) that he'll be ok.
